Senior Year Must-Do’s

Senior year is a juggling act. Emotions run high. It’s an exciting year of many memorable moments with the next step in your life’s journey just ahead. Stay motivated and enjoy all the benefits of being a senior in high school.

🎓 Academic Success

  • Stay focused on grades: Don’t catch “senioritis.” Many colleges request midyear and final transcripts and may rescind offers if grades drop.

  • Stay organized: Use a planner or digital calendar to track deadlines, assignments, and applications. Find the system that works best for you.

  • Ask for help early: Don’t wait until the last minute if you’re struggling with a class. Again, senior year grades matter.

🏫 College & Career Prep

  • Balance your college list: Apply to a balanced mix of high, medium, and low probability schools. Better to have more acceptances than fewer, or none, in the spring.

  • Craft strong essays: Start early and seek feedback.

  • Ask for recommendations EARLY: Give teachers, counselors, and other recommenders plenty of time.

  • Finalize College and Scholarship Applications Early: Stay on top of application deadlines. Don’t wait until the last minute—give yourself plenty of time to gather recommendation letters and edit personal statements.

💡 Life Skills & Readiness

  • Manage Your Time Wisely: Balance academics with college applications and personal activities. Create a schedule to ensure you have enough time to dedicate to each area.

  • Handle responsibilities: Learn to manage finances, laundry, cooking, and transportation before leaving home.

  • Stay healthy: Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and stress management. Good self-care should be a lifelong habit.

👥 Social & Personal Growth

  • Strengthen relationships: Build connections with teachers (they may be lifelong mentors) and cherish time with family.

  • Be true to yourself: Don’t compare your path to others’—college choices and next steps are deeply personal.

  • Celebrate milestones: Senior year is full of important moments. Don’t miss out. Document them and take pride in your achievements.
